Commentary: The Inevitable Fruits of Critical Race Theory

A black man went on a multistate shooting spree recently. The suspected gunman, Justin Tyran Williams, said he specifically targeted white men in his rampage that left five wounded. “Basically, [Williams] explained throughout his life, specifically white males had taken from him, and also what he described as military-looking white males had taken from him,” Columbus (Georgia) Police detective Brandon Lockhart testified Monday.

A racially motivated mass shooting would be the number one news story on CNN . . . were the races reversed. But a black man intentionally shooting white men is just not that interesting to those outside of conservative media.

One could dwell on the lack of coverage or how it’s closer to the average mass shooting than the stereotype pushed by the media. (The majority of mass shooters are actually black.) But the most heinous aspect about this crime is the shooter’s motivation. It would be easy to dismiss it as the fixation of one deranged individual. Antiwhite resentment, however, is actively encouraged by the prevailing ideology in our schools and institutions. Critical race theory wants all of its adherents to think the same way as Justin Tyran Williams.

Most likely, Williams didn’t learn his violent hatred from critical race theory or in school. But it can’t be denied that CRT teaches that white men take everything from nonwhites and the reason why minorities fail is due to white supremacy. It encourages its adherents to hate whites and possibly even wish violence upon them.

CASE

Just take a gander at the latest examples of antiwhite racism promoted by our institutions. The Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, a respected outlet in the field of psychology, published an article that claimed “whiteness” is “a malignant, parasitic-like condition” that effectively turns its white hosts into “perverse” monsters who attack non-whites. The article grimly concludes that there is no “permanent cure” for this condition.

Last week, a Fairfax County, Virginia school board member told graduating high school seniors that they must wage “jihad” against the world of “white supremacy” that surrounds them.

The prestigious Spence School in New York City shows middle schoolers videos that humiliate and mock white women as racist “Karens,” further encouraging racial animus among minorities and racial guilt among whites.

Portland, Oregon-area schools (among many others) teach students that whites are born “racist,” America was built on “white supremacy, institutional racism, racial hierarchy, and oppression,” and that students must become revolutionaries to take down this racist system. Needless to say, much of the curriculum in these schools centers on the apparent atrocities committed by all white people, from colonialism to redlining. The impression given of whites is not a kind one.

There are even respectable people who openly share Williams’ murderous fantasies. Psychiatrist Aruna Khilanani delivered a Yale lecture in April on “The Psychopathic Problem of the White Mind.” In the speech, she vented about how whites make her blood boil and how evil they are for simply existing. She even shared this daydream with her audience: “I had fantasies of unloading a revolver into the head of any white person that got in my way, burying their body, and wiping my bloody hands as I walked away relatively guiltless with a bounce in my step. Like I did the world a fucking favor.” In a subsequent interview, Khilanani said minorities need to be more racist towards whites. She also said in that same interview that her lecture was well-received by the Yale audience.

There is some controversy over whether state-taught racial grievance will lead to violence. Both sides in this dispute agree that CRT is bad, but differ as to the extent of its consequences. Commentator James Lindsay recently suggested that CRT teaching would lead to real-world violence against white people. That suggestion drew the ire of Quillette editor Claire Lehmann, who said it amounted to “White Genocide Theory” and would lead to white violence against non-whites.

But Lindsay has the better part of the argument in this dispute. People who are told that a certain group of people did terrible things to their ancestors and continue to oppress them will come to hate that specific group. They may even entertain violence against that enemy class, especially if things go wrong in their own lives. Who better than “whitey” to blame for all of life’s misfortunes?

Critical race theory isn’t just bad because it diminishes education and critical thinking—it’s downright evil because it encourages racial prejudice against whites. And it’s not hard to see a connection between state-sanctioned hate and actual violence. When every kid is taught that whites are evil people, unfairly hoarding power and wealth, you can expect more anti-white mass shooters.
