DeSantis Calls Out So-Called ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Moniker and Migrating Californians Staining Red States Blue

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) was a featured guest with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro and participated in a Q&A segment. In it, DeSantis tells some of the back story behind the recently signed Parental Rights in Education bill as well as deriding Californians for their main export being ideology.

DeSantis specifically pointed out the number of California companies who are moving to states like Texas and Florida and who are bringing their employees with them.

“There is cause for concern,” DeSantis said. “Texas would have all these companies moved from California over the years. So you’d have companies move from San Francisco to Austin, and they’d bring hundreds of employees with them. And those employees would vote the exact same way they voted that turned San Francisco into the dumpster fire that it is.”

DeSantis continued by talking about Florida and the prospect of leftist ideologies coming to the Sunshine State.

“It’s like the leftism, they will not draw the connection between their leftist ideology and the destruction that’s all around them,” DeSantis said. “It is a problem because I do think there’s a class of voters who would come to Florida, and they would continue to vote the same way.”

CASE

Regarding the Parental Rights in Education bill, DeSantis said he had not been aware how rampantly sexualized content was being used in the public school system.

“The Parental Rights in Education was interesting because I didn’t know what was being done to try and get this in with these very young kids,” DeSantis said. “So the legislature in Florida starts debating this and so I’m out just doing my stuff around the state and these reporters start badgering me about this. And they’re saying this bill, and I’m like ‘Wait a minute. Okay. I haven’t read it but I know they’re lying. I know the media is lying.’”

DeSantis is referencing how the Parental Rights in Education bill was known in the mainstream media and among left-leaning legislators as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. DeSantis continued by being shocked that this “was the hill they were going to die on.”

“I asked myself, ‘What is the latest on this thing?’ And I’m reading this thing and I’m like, ‘You have got to be kidding me. This is the hill that they want to die on?’ So at that point it had received so much negative attention that I don’t think it would have passed the Florida Legislature had I not engaged in it.”
