The federal government this week began fortifying Washington, D.C., for Inauguration Day, which is roughly three months away.
The effort has begun with crews erecting fencing around the White House, including nearby Lafayette Park, the National Park Service, which is leading the effort, said Tuesday.
Other projects include putting up view stands for the Inauguration parade along with accompanying lighting and sound equipment for the Jan. 20, 2025, event.
Such efforts historically begin Nov. 1. The park service said it started roughly two weeks earlier to “accommodate additional time needed for a safer and more secure environment.”
Related closures will stay in place until February 2025.
