Liz Cheney Says She Will Leave GOP if Donald Trump Is 2024 Nominee

Rejected by her own voters in Wyoming, Rep. Liz Cheney says she won’t remain a Republican if Donald Trump is the GOP presidential nominee in 2024.

“I’m going to make sure Donald Trump, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he is not the nominee. And if he is the nominee, I won’t be a Republican,” Cheney told the Texas Tribune festival on Saturday.

Cheney has been censured by her own state party and the Republican National Committee for her participation in the House Democrats’ Jan. 6 committee probe after Republicans were denied the right to pick their own members to participate on the panel.

She also was resoundingly defeated this summer in the GOP primary by Harriet Hageman, denying the former vice president’s daughter another term in Congress.

Cheney also told the crowd Saturday that she would campaign for Democrats in races where the Republican nominee, like Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, are raising questions about election integrity.

“I’m going to do everything I can to make sure Kari Lake is not elected,” Cheney said.
